For Mrs. Alvarez

Dear Mrs. Alvarez,

You stayed after class every Tuesday in seventh grade to help me with fractions. I never told you how much I dreaded that class before you.

I finished my nursing degree this spring, and I still check my math the way you showed me. Thank you for not giving up on me.

Daniel

An example. Yours is written from your own words.

They may never know what they meant to you. This is how they find out.

You don't need the perfect words, or their address. Tell us what they did, and we'll help you say it and get it to them.

The day it arrives

A real envelope, with their name on the front.

  1. 01

    It shows up at school

A sealed envelope in their school mailbox, addressed to them by name. Not an email, not a form.

  2. 02

    Your words, years later

Inside, the exact thing they did for you, written the way you'd say it if you could go back and tell them.

  3. 03

    Your name at the bottom

Signed by you, with your return address on the envelope, in case they want to write back.

People underestimate how much a thank-you means to the person who gets it.

In a University of Chicago study, people who wrote thank-you letters expected them to feel awkward to receive. The people who got them were more surprised and felt better than the writers predicted, and they cared about the warmth more than the wording.

How it works
  1. 01

    Tell us what they did

One question: what did they do for you? A sentence is plenty, even if it was years ago.

  2. 02

    Read your letter

We write a real letter from your words. Read it free, change the tone, and send it only when it sounds like you.

  3. 03

We mail it to their school

Type the name of the school where they teach and we fill in the address. Printed on a card, addressed to them by name, with your return address on the envelope.

Not a teacher? Same letter.

Anyone who made a difference: the coach who kept you on the team, the professor who wrote the letter, the first boss who took a chance. Or your child's teacher this year.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. Write it, read it, and pay with just your email. We email you a receipt with a link to follow your letter, no password to make.

I don't know their address. Is that a problem?

No. Type the name of the school where they teach and we fill in its address from the U.S. Department of Education's school directory, addressed to them by name. If they've moved schools, search for the new one. If you know their home address, you can type that instead.

What if they've retired?

Use their home address if you have it. Otherwise you can send it to their old school; some schools pass mail along to former staff, but we can't promise it reaches them.

What does it cost?

Writing and reading your letter is free. Printing and mailing it is $6.99, charged only when it goes out. If it can't be mailed, you're refunded in full.

I don't remember many details. Is that a problem?

Not at all. One honest sentence is enough, and the letter only uses what you tell us. It never makes things up.

Will it look like it came from me?

Yes. It's written from your words and signed with your name. A small line at the bottom says it was printed and mailed by Dropfetti.

Who would you write to?

It takes about two minutes, and you don't need an account. You see the letter before you pay anything.
